How they found us
The client discovered Creating Spaces by living close to the showroom. She drove past daily on her way to and from work and decided to call one afternoon. After browsing the showroom, she booked a home consultation and measurement. During the measure, we discussed the style the customer was imagining for their bathroom.
The brief
The customer wanted to transform their existing bathroom into a more modern space. The design needed to offer contrast, shape and clean lines.
We were tasked with creating a space that’s easy to clean, practical, and aligned with the ideas shared during the measurement. The customer wanted a functional bathroom, one that also looked striking. They also wanted to incorporate a bath and storage for toiletries, towels, etc.
As the design developed, they decided they wanted something a little different in their room: an L-shaped bath and an unusual ribbon-style towel radiator.
The challenge
The project involved more than replacing the furniture. The room’s previous components needed consideration; the old wetroom, in place for years, may have caused damage underneath, and we needed to ensure the floor was level for the new bath.
The old wetroom floor was certainly ready to be removed, and the gradient toward the drain was far steeper underneath than was expected. This needed to be boarded out and secured effectively to create a stable floor for the bath.
The design
To modernise the room, we chose Tavistock Cadence furniture in Oxford blue; its rich colour and sleek lines gave a once outdated, old-fashioned space a present-day feel. Matt black brassware just accentuates this new-age feel.
The Oxford blue cabinets were paired with Waxman Ceramics Belgravia ocean gloss tiles, complementing and following the colour throughout the room. These, along with the matt black grid-style bath screen, allow the screen to complement the tiles’ symmetry.
As the room was medium-sized, we advised a standard-sized towel radiator, and to match the matt black, we chose a black ribbon-style radiator with the panels at a slight angle. This ensured enough space for the customer’s towels, but because of the colour, the radiator produces 35% more heat than traditional chrome radiators. This gave the customer the confidence that her bathroom would heat effectively and her towels would dry quickly through the winter months.
The result
The Canforth white paint our fitter suggested really finished the space. The light, almost white paint, contrasting with the dark blue tiles, units, and brassware, really made the colours pop. We achieved the high contrast in the brief, and the customer was more than satisfied with the outcome.
As a result, our customer has a bathroom they feel proud to show house guests. Their storage space has increased, the room’s heating has improved, and the finish delivers the high contrast they asked for.

“Matthew initially called out, listened to what I wanted to achieve and when I went to view the design, it exceeded my expectations.”
