The design brief for The Residence Collection was to extract the key principles, shapes and dimensions from Article 4 directions for windows, and integrate market leading technology into the design using virtually maintenance free materials; your windows and doors won’t warp, swell, flake or need sanding and painting, ever! The Residence Collection offers a suite of thermally and acoustically superior window and door systems, featuring the latest security, maintenance and performance innovations, whilst still appearing traditional. What are Article 4 Directives and do they apply to my home?
Article 4 directions are made by the local planning authority, and this can affect you when installing windows in your home. They restrict the scope of permitted development rights, either in relation to a particular area or site, or a particular type of development anywhere in the authority’s area. Article 4 directions are used to control works that could threaten the character and architectural merit of an area or building of acknowledged importance. This means that new windows and doors may need planning permission. Windows are the defining feature and focal point of any building and the type of window installed can improve or completely ruin the look of a building, which is important in conservation areas or listed buildings.
What is a Conservation Area?
An area “of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance”. Many of our towns, villages and cities rely on correctly specified windows for much of their architectural impact and character. Inappropriate, poor quality replacement windows can easily erode traditional features on historic buildings.
What is a Listed Building?
Listing is not a preservation order, preventing change. It does not freeze a building in time, it simply means that listed building consent must be applied for in order to make any changes to that building, which might affect its special interest. It’s there to protect the aesthetic of that building.

A more modern approach has been for planning authorities to approve the use of The Residence Collection in conservation areas because of its authentic design. It has been specifically designed to aesthetically replicate the documented historical window designs from the 19th Century period and therefore has been approved for use in many areas across the UK. PVCu is greener than you realise. It’s an insulating material, keeping you cosy in the winter and cool in the summer, contributing to lower energy bills and carbon emissions. R2 can achieve a Window Energy Rating (WER) of A++ and a U-value of 0.79 W/m2K which is PassivHaus standard so it’s future proof too. All our windows and doors can be fully recycled and actually include a recycled material section within them.
As for maintenance, there’s very little, no toxic paints, primers, preservatives or fungicides to keep your windows looking fresh!

R9 has unquestionable market leading design features and performance. It achieved one of the highest classifications on the British Standard weather test due to its robust design and has market leading thermal and acoustic values.
It achieves a certified window energy A++ WER rating and accommodates the most thermally and acoustically efficient 44mm triple glazing and 28mm double glazing, attaining U-values of 0.74 W/m2k with triple glazing, PassivHaus Standard and 1.2 with double glazing, far surpassing the British Building Regulation requirements. All of this contributes to lower energy bills, keeping you cosy in the winter and cool in the summer.

R9 comprises of front doors, rear and side entrance doors, open-in doors plus a variety of French door styles to suit your space and unique style requirements. Installation of Windows & Doors
At Creating spaces we have a specialist team who understand the do’s and dont’s with windows and doors installations.
As part of our service, one of our team will come to your home and perform a quotation survey, taking into consideration what products you currently have and providing advise on what new products you should look to install, whilst carrying out this survey we will be looking at what is involved in removing your current windows and doors and replacing them with new, energy efficient products from our range.
Once you choose us as your preferred installer, one of the team will come back to take more accurate measurements to ensure your installation runs smoothly from start to finish.
At the end of your installation we take away your old products and send them away for recycling, helping you to do your part in taking care of our environment for the future generations.
We know that when it comes to improving your home with new windows and doors, it can be a daunting task to find a company that you can trust. Here at Creating Spaces, we are an Assure-certified installer, our surveyors and installers have been trained and signed off to complete the work meaning you can rest assured that the installation complies with Building Regulations and is therefore legal and correct. You will also be sent a certificate of registration for this. This will come directly from Assure Certification and should arrive within 28 days and proves that the work is registered with the Local Authority.
All our installers and surveyors registered with Assure will be provided with branded ID cards so you know they are exactly who they claim and they have the appropriate Mandatory Technical Competences (MTC’s) to complete the work on your home.
